This article discusses the debate over returning to work in the office and whether or not employees who threaten to quit over mandated return policies are actually serious. Employers are faced with a dilemma: risking coronavirus exposure by having employees return to the office or continuing to allow remote work, which some employers feel creates a lack of accountability and team cohesion. Since many employers do not have a clear picture of their employees' personal situation, like whether an employee is immunocompromised or has an elderly living in their home, they often face pushback from employees who fear returning to the office. Despite workers' threats, employers cannot clearly ascertain whether those threats are true or just posturing and should carefully consider their decisions on when to require employees to return to work.
