This article examines the status of gig workers in the U.S. and how larger companies have created their own platforms for these workers, providing stability and more respect. The two main recruitment challenges in the gig economy are cost efficiency and compliance. Companies are looking at ways to ensure their engagement with gig workers is compliant with state and federal laws and is cost efficient. This article also looks at how companies are utilizing gig economy workers for temporary staffing when the need arises, as well as looking at ways to provide these workers with access to benefits, a stable income, and the ability for them to save for retirement. Finally, it examines some of the technical infrastructure needed to manage gig worker compliance effectively.
