This article advises recruiters and employers to view caregiving as a valid job experience. Although caregiving significantly impacts the caregiver's life, it has traditionally been treated as a "building block" at best or an unwritten job requirement at worst. Caregiving brings a range of impressive transferrable skills like patience, collaboration, problem-solving, time management, and empathy. It can also provide a boost of confidence in one's caregiving and interpersonal capabilities. Employers must recognize that caregiving brings a unique set of important skills to the job and that its contributions should be formally recognized and valued.
