This article explores the damage done by bad recruiters to the reputation of the recruiting industry as a whole, and discusses how recruiters can avoid common pitfalls that lead to professional misconduct. It asserts that the bad behaviors of some recruiters reflect poorly on the industry at large, which has come to include a set of same-old recruiting practices that ultimately do little to benefit job seekers or employers. To improve the industry, recruiters are encouraged to challenge outdated processes, rethink common practices, and place the focus on delivering value in each interaction and transaction. Furthermore, recruiters are urged to reject the notion of a "transactional" recruiting approach, and prioritize relationships and collaboration in an effort to build trust with job seekers and employers.
